Children's Dentistry in North Texas

Healthy baby teeth help children chew, speak and make room for adult teeth. Our team keeps visits calm and simple, and parents can schedule and ask questions at our front desk in English or Spanish.

About Children's Dentistry

Children's dentistry is general dental care for babies, kids and teens. Visits include checking how teeth are growing, cleaning, fluoride when appropriate, sealants when recommended, cavity treatment and coaching for parents on brushing, diet and habits like thumb sucking.

When to bring your child in

  • Your child's first tooth has come in or they are turning one
  • It has been six months since their last checkup
  • You see white or brown spots on a tooth
  • Your child complains that a tooth hurts
  • A tooth was chipped or knocked loose
  • You have questions about thumb sucking, pacifiers or teething

Checkups and cleanings

A look at teeth, gums and growth, plus a gentle cleaning sized for small mouths.

Fluoride and sealants

Fluoride helps strengthen enamel, and sealants can protect the grooves of back teeth when the dentist recommends them.

Cavity care

Small cavities can be treated with fillings to keep baby teeth healthy until they fall out naturally.

Benefits

  • Cavities found while they are small
  • Kids learn that dental visits are routine
  • Parents get practical home care guidance
  • Scheduling help in English or Spanish

Risks and limitations

  • Our children's care is provided by general dentists, not pediatric specialists
  • Some children need a referral to a pediatric dentist for extensive treatment or special needs
  • Sealants and fillings can wear and may need repair over time
  • Results at home depend on daily brushing and diet

Recovery and aftercare

  • Brush twice a day; use a rice-grain smear of fluoride toothpaste under age 3 and a pea-sized amount from ages 3 to 6
  • Help young children brush until they can do it well on their own
  • Offer water between meals instead of juice or soda
  • Avoid putting a baby to bed with a bottle of milk or juice

Cost, insurance and financing

Coverage depends on your child's plan. Many plans, including Medicaid and CHIP, include children's checkups. Our Grand Prairie, Arlington and Commerce offices accept Medicaid and CHIP, and all four offices accept Medicare, CareCredit and Cherry. Our team can check your child's coverage and financing options before treatment.

Frequently asked questions

When should my child first see a dentist?

By their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing.

Do baby teeth really need fillings?

Often yes. Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth and help with chewing and speech. Untreated cavities can cause pain and infection.

Can I stay with my child during the visit?

Yes. Parents are welcome to stay with their child in the treatment room.

Are dental X-rays safe for children?

Dental X-rays use a very low dose of radiation, and we take them only when the dentist needs them to check for problems.
